Here’s what changes for oily, dry, combination, and sensitive skin, and what I do differently for each.

Oily Skin

Oily skin produces more surface shine as the day goes on, which is the enemy of makeup longevity in Queensland heat. The fix isn’t heavier product - it’s the right base. Mattifying primers, oil-free and long-wearing foundations, and a light press of translucent powder in the T-zone before the final setting spray all work together to control shine without looking cakey. Blotting papers in your touch-up kit are worth their weight in gold for oily skin through a long reception.

Dry Skin

Dry skin needs the opposite approach - hydration built in from the very first step. A rich moisturiser applied the night before (not just the morning of) makes a real difference, followed by a hydrating primer that gives foundation something to grip onto rather than sitting on flaky patches. Cream and liquid formulas generally sit better on dry skin than powder products, and setting sprays formulated for hydration keep the finish looking fresh rather than drawn.

Combination Skin

Combination skin - oily through the T-zone, drier at the cheeks and jaw - is the most common skin type I work with, and it needs a genuinely zoned approach rather than one product across the whole face. Mattifying primer where you need it, hydrating primer where you don’t, and powder applied selectively rather than all over. Sensitive Skin

Sensitive or reactive skin changes the conversation entirely - it’s not about longevity techniques first, it’s about product safety.
